San Diego Hunger Coalition estimates that, as of June 2025, more than 1 in 4 (26%) San Diegans experience nutrition insecurity, or are unable to provide three nutritious meals per day for themselves and/or their families.
Households with eligible members can receive an EBT card to purchase additional food at participating grocery stores and farmers markets.
Types of available Food Assistance
Sun Bucks (Summer EBT) helps families buy food for their school-aged children during the summer.
School breakfast and school lunch is free to all K-12 students in California.
WIC provides support for pregnant and recently pregnant women, and children ages 0-5.
Meals are available for adults aged 60 and older. Home delivered meals are available for home-bound adults aged 60 and older.
Food Distributions provide shelf-stable staples and fresh foods. They are available to all San Diego residents, and many have drive-thru or home delivery options.

CalFresh 101 Training
We offer free monthly CalFresh Application Assistance 101 trainings to equip partners with tools to connect eligible San Diegans to benefits. Custom trainings are also available to meet specific needs.
