Hunger Free San Diego Advisory Board

Comprised of decision-makers and experts representing emergency food providers, social service & government agencies, healthcare providers, school districts, early education providers, researchers, funders, and other aligned collaboratives.

Facilitated by the SDHC, the HFSD Advisory Board meets quarterly to provide feedback, update the Hunger Free San Diego methodology, and collaborate on ways to better the San Diego food system for all.


CalFresh Outreach Partners

CalFresh Task Force  - The San Diego Hunger Coalition is the facilitator of the CalFresh Task Force, a group of more than 60 community partner organizations that provide CalFresh application assistance, and liaisons from each of the San Diego County HHSA Family Resource Centers. Members meet on a monthly basis to share and receive program updates and collaborate to improve the systems through which San Diego residents apply for and receive CalFresh food assistance.

Nourish California advocates smart, progressive policy solutions that promote fundamental human rights, dignity, and justice through increased food access. Each year, we rely on a coalition of partners to shape our policy priorities and advance shared goals.

Childhood Obesity Initiative (COI) - Collaboration grounded in the belief that solutions to hunger must employ nutrition-focused strategies that tackle the related problems of hunger and obesity. The San Diego Hunger Coalition is a member of the COI: Community Domain Leadership Council.

We are an active member of the national Hunger Free Communities network facilitated by the Alliance to End Hunger in Washington, D.C. Hunger Free Communities include a wide variety of stakeholders, including faith-based and other community nonprofits working alongside local businesses and government agencies. Together, partners work to enable a holistic approach to food security that coordinates different parts of the food system to work together.

Collaborative Groups

California Association of Food Banks (CAFB) - Provide CalFresh enrollment outreach training and on-going consultation to more than 40 organizations. Support a robust reauthorization of the Child Nutrition programs. The San Diego Hunger Coalition is providing leadership as part of CAFB’s statewide Alliance to Transform CalFresh.

California Hunger Action Coalition (CHAC) - Coordinate advocacy so that those with limited resources can meet their nutritional needs.
